This course develops the academic writing and communication skills necessary for success in college and today's workplace. Students use pre-writing strategies, critical thinking, and the writing process to develop well-organized essays in a variety of rhetorical modes. Emphasis is placed on planning, drafting, revising, editing, and proofreading to produce clear, organized, and professional writing while applying standard grammatical and stylistic conventions. Students analyze readings, evaluate information, and strengthen research skills by locating, assessing, and integrating scholarly sources into their writing. The course also introduces American Psychological Association (APA) style, enabling students to document sources accurately, provide proper attribution, and avoid plagiarism. By the end of the course, students will have developed the writing, critical thinking, and communication skills needed for academic achievement and effective workplace communication.
