GE112-O: Public Speaking

This course develops the oral communication and presentation skills needed for success in college and the workplace. Students learn the principles of effective public speaking by organizing ideas, adapting messages to a variety of audiences, and speaking situations, and delivering presentations with confidence and professionalism. Emphasis is placed on informative, persuasive, and ceremonial speaking, as well as the effective use of research, evidence, presentation technology, and visual aids to support oral communication. Students also learn to document sources using the current edition of American Psychological Association (APA) style to promote academic integrity and avoid plagiarism. Through planning, practice, and delivery, students strengthen their ability to communicate clearly, engage audiences, and present information effectively in academic, professional, and public settings.
