GE113-O: Introduction to Sociology

This course introduces students to the field of sociology by exploring how individuals are shaped by and interact with the social structures, institutions, and cultures around them. Students examine key sociological concepts, terminology, and foundational perspectives while analyzing how personal experiences and worldviews influence the understanding of society. Emphasis is placed on topics such as socialization, culture, diversity, race, gender, family, education, religion, and social interaction to better understand the complexities of human behavior and social relationships. By applying sociological concepts to contemporary issues, students develop the critical thinking, cultural awareness, and interpersonal skills needed for success in college, the workplace, and an increasingly diverse society.
