This course introduces students to the fundamental physics principles associated with turbine engine design, construction, and operation. Students examine the historical development and evolution of gas turbine engines while developing an understanding of thermodynamics, force, motion, pressure, temperature, airflow, combustion, and energy transfer as applied to turbine engine systems. The course explores the major sections of turbine engines, including airflow and power-producing components, and examines the operational characteristics of turbojet and related turbine engine types. Emphasis is placed on applying scientific and mathematical concepts to turbine engine performance, efficiency, safety, and aviation maintenance operations.
